Waterproof or water-resistant: what is the difference?

Waterproof, water-resistant and moisture-resistant are not the same thing. Choose the floor that fits the area.

Waterproof

SPC

The SPC core does not swell or rot when it gets wet. Our best choice for kitchens and humid areas.

Waterproof is not flood-proof.

Laminate (cth. Robina)

Copes with everyday spills if wiped up quickly. Not waterproof.

Yes. NorthWood offers free site measurement and a written quotation in Kedah, Perlis and Penang.

Is SPC flooring waterproof?

Yes. SPC flooring has a waterproof core that does not swell or warp when wet, and it can be installed over existing tiles. Waterproof does not mean flood-proof: standing water, moisture from the subfloor and poor installation can still cause damage. Please see our Terms & Disclaimer.

Is laminate flooring waterproof?

No. Standard laminate such as Robina is water-resistant only: it copes with everyday spills if they are wiped up quickly, but it is not waterproof and is not suitable for bathrooms or areas that are often wet. Waterblok laminate is waterproof for up to 200 hours according to the manufacturer's test; that figure is a test result, not a warranty period.

Which floor should I choose for wet areas?

We recommend SPC flooring for kitchens and humid areas because its core is waterproof. We will advise you on the floor and subfloor condition during the free site measurement.
